News: Startups and product designers are scrambling to keep up with American consumers' demands for everything to be done their way: the right brand name, the right choices, at the right price, and preferably right now. Nevertheless, investors are currently less enthused. According to Crunchbase data, funding for U.S. nonfood consumer product businesses has plummeted.

According to a Crunchbase News count, more than 81,000 employees at U.S.-based IT companies have already been let go in major layoffs this year, yet the year has only just begun. Twilio, DocuSign, and Wix all reduced staff last week.




When it comes to venture-backed startups, the phrase "growth at any cost" used to seem like a curse. In order to preserve valuable runway, such businesses are now advised to increase margins and cut costs. It seems good, but has it ever actually made a difference?
