Apple to bring 18W fast charging to its upcoming iPhones
Apple to bring 18W fast charging
The latest iPhones come with fast charging support, however, they require Apple's 18W USB-C power adaptor and Lightning to USB-C cable that the company sells separately. This means that users will have to pay an extra $50 on these accessories to enable fast charging on their iPhones.
A bundled Lightning to USB-C cable would also mean that customers who paid at least $749 for a new iPhone would finally have a cable that connects with the latest MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models out of the box.
What is the difference between an 18 watt wall charger and a 30 watt wall charger?
Both the Quick Charge 2.0 and Quick Charge 3.0 specifications support a maximum power of 18W over the USB cable and into your phone's charger. Quick Charge 2.0 is limited to 5V, 9V, and 12V (18W output only at 9V or 12V), while Quick Charge 3.0 supports voltages between 3.2V and 20V in 200mV increments, and also still respects the fact that USB cables and connectors are typically rated only to 1.8–2.0A. Unlike the new USB Power Deliver specification, Quick Charge 3.0 is still a maximum of 18W per port, but the voltage can vary dynamically as needed during charging, which can yield a faster charge.
