MeitY in proposed regulations for online gaming

Draft rules for online gaming have been published by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), which recommend self-regulation and corporate due diligence. The verification of players on gaming companies’ platforms would be required. In addition to adhering to local rules, these businesses will be required to have an Indian address.

According to a report by the gaming and interactive media venture fund Lumikai, revenue in the nation’s gaming industry climbed from $2 billion in FY21 to $2.6 billion in FY22. It is projected to expand at a 27 percent CAGR to $8.6 billion in FY27.
