Bollywood is known for its superstar culture
Entertainment Blog: Bollywood is a part of Indian cinema. Bollywood is known for its "superstar culture." People go to see an actor perform because they enjoy it. Age, plot, or direction are unimportant to the Indian fan club. Hollywood industry insiders have been known to trash even movies starring actors like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. There are still superstars, just not the fake ones created by the Mumbai media. You can see the hit movies of the last 3–4 years. People want something good and new, not what you have been showing them for decades.
However, times have changed now. People just want to see the great content. Online platforms and web series have also changed a lot in the last 2–3 years. Many of these artists who were unable to work in film have begun to work in web series and web movies. For example, take Mohit Raina. He was the lead actor in the Bhaukaal web series. His role and web series were well received.
Why is Bollywood not as popular as it once was?
Web series like Mirzapur and Scam 1992 were popular. What is the main reason? Their content The only reason why a film like RRR is successful is SS Rajamouli. He has directed brilliant films like Eega and Bahubali. People had high expectations of him, and RRR lived up to those expectations. Because the public has too many options nowadays, content is king.
No one in North India knew about the fame that KGF had gathered before the first part came out. But people loved the first film. The second part of KGF earned a record. People were eagerly waiting for RRR and KGF 2. Today actor Yash has become a brand. Why is it not so with Bollywood movies? Bollywood has also made great films in the past. Actually, only Bollywood actors have forgotten that they used to make great films once upon a time.
For example, let us take Shahrukh Khan. SRK has worked in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zara, and Swades. In masala films, films like Don will also be liked. But his last decade's films disappointed a lot. Films like Zero, Fan, and Jab Tak Hai Jaan were not liked by the audience. However, now it seems that Shahrukh Khan is going to do the right films again. Pathan is an action film. After this, his film, Jawan (an action film), will come. So the selection of movies is better than ever.
Bollywood is known for its superstar culture
The last decade (2010-2020) was named after Akshay Kumar. He worked in successful movies like Rowdy Rathore, Khiladi 786, Baby, Special 26, Gabbar is Back, Housefull, and Airlift. But, then, he started feeling that whatever he did, the public would start liking his movies. So his way of thinking was incorrect. The public did not like the content of his last few films at all.
Salman Khan's last blockbuster movies were Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. After this, Salman's films kept coming, but could not become much successful. After a long time, Ajay Devgan got success in the form of Drishyam 2. But, it is not original content. It is a remake of South film only.
New Bollywood Stars?
Kartik Aryan has such capabilities, in my opinion. He has demonstrated himself this year. Even if I want to give Tabu Mam more credit for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2's popularity, I also can't ignore what he has done to help revive Hindi cinema. Kartik Aaryan has a loyal fan base, and he just needs a good director who can use his talent. Vicky Kaushal had the potential to work in good films after Uri. But he works on trashy films. Varun Dhawan, for sure—I mean, the kind of movies he did are just outstanding; he is better than today's cringe actors.
After Pandemic, it feels like audiences just want to watch event movies like RRR, KGF, or extraordinary WOM movies like Karthikeya 2, Kantara, and Drishyam 2 only in theaters. We don't want to waste money on crap films. We all have smart TVs with 32- or 43-inch screens at home.
