Improve Your Cityscape Photography in Midjourney

Artificial Intelligence Art Generator: Many people find that their results are not as realistic as they want. In a recent Twitter thread, Chase Lean shared a trick to improve his cityscape images in Midjourney.

Lean’s trick is to use a taller aspect ratio when generating images. For example, he recommends using the “–ar 2:3” argument when prompting Midjourney. This tells Midjourney to create an image with a height twice as long as its width. Lean explains that using a taller aspect ratio creates more realistic cityscape images.

This is because it forces Midjourney to focus on the vertical elements of the scene. This can be especially helpful when generating images of tall buildings or skyscrapers.

To test Lean’s theory, I tried creating a few cityscape images using different aspect ratios. I found that images generated with a taller aspect ratio were indeed more realistic than those generated with a wider aspect ratio. The taller images had more detail and depth, and they better captured the sense of scale and grandeur of the cityscapes.

Prompt: an aerial photo of [CITY], sunny, beautiful lighting, stunning architecture –ar 2:3

Most people think the magic is in the prompt.

But it’s not necessarily true:

Chase Lean: After 270 experiments, I’ve found that the aspect ratio is even more important.

Use a tall aspect ratio like –ar 2:3 for the best results.

@the_aeye: It works most of the iconic cities all over the world but failed some of US cities like St. Louis, DC etc. It gets the elements right, like the arch, but the placement is completely off. I guess MJ doesn’t train much with US cities.
